the use of resin over the last 20 years is a then and now story. i
remember the first resin kit i examined. it stank..the sizing of the
castings were not uniform..there was warpage, all in all i am gald i
passed on buying it.
today, things are light years ahead. quality resins can be too
expensive for the quantities if kits produced, but the kits and
general resin stuff is far superior in all ways to what was available
years ago.
one thing that still holds true is that the quality of the finished
casting is no better than the master that was used to produce it. if
you start with a garbage master pattern, guess what you get regardless
of what resin is used ? garbage in, garbage out.
a personal plug, in my o scale castings i still use alumilite as i
have for the past 12 years and i do not have the mentioned problems of
the earlier resin products. no stink, no shrinkage, etc.
