Dear Art,
You can either e-mail us or call if you have a problem with any of
our products. I will admit that this is the first I have heard of
someone having a problem with the 4 screws that hold the coupler bracket
to the gearbox. You are correct, you do not need these for the KD with
code 110 wheels.
To remove the gearbox cover you can use two small screw drivers. We
have curved pickups (tweezers) that seem to work the best. You will use
the screwdrivers as levers to distort the end crossbar that connect the
two side frames by the brake shoes holder. With the engine upside down,
place each screw driver between the axle and the crossbar on the same
end of the truck. Using the axle as the fulcrum, push down on the screw
driver handle and this should pop the crossbar off of the gear box. If
you look at the center of the cross bar you can see a rectangular
opening that holds a corresponding tab on the end of the gearbox. You
are trying to pop the crossbar off of the tab.
If all else fails, you can return your SW1 in the original foam tray
to us and for $25 plus $7.50 S/H we will convert your SW1 to code 110
wheels. Unlike our 2-8-0, we do not have a code 110 version of our
diesels. The 2-8-0s were just to difficult to change drivers so we have
both versions.
Let us know how you make out.
Best regards,
Don
