Hi Bob!
Back in the mid 1960's (are you old enough?) NWSL imported what was supposed
to be a NP (?) caboose in HO brass. As I recall (and as it's been 40 years
at least, I might be incorrect, especially since I wasn't in on the
converstaion personally), it was one of the first attempts to import brass
from Korea. Anyway, the monstrosity that was the result was unsalable, and
Mr. Martin was going to pitch them in the trash. Ken Tompkins of Keystone
Loco (again, time might be my enemy on accuracy of the story) then told him
that the HO guys would buy 500 of anything and that he should market them
under the "Disaster Series" label, painted in splattered day glow (many
colors on the same car) paint. I think the price was around $10. I
believe that these have now become somewhat of a collectors item. I case
you doubt the existence of these models, I personally saw and sold several
at Ken's shop in the Ithaca area of NY...
