Probably sales were helped along by a mock-serious
"review" published in RMC at the time.
Basically much of the caboose was off square or plum.
The review sample (IIRC) reportedly appeared to have
dipped in a bucket of full strength, bright orange
house paint and allowed to drain/dry. It included the
"personal imprint" (read fingerprint) of the craftsman
who painted it, and some pre-applied "weathering"
(dust stuck in the paint). All according to what I
remember of the review, I never saw a car in person.
Like the "pet rock" around the same time frame, I
suspect it was somewhat of a one-time thing. Given the
relative number of modelers, maybe the S corollary is
that you can sell 5 of anything?
