I did in fact see four prototype black couplers last month. They were attached to the two new Kansas City Southern heritage units. They were shiny and spiffy for the photo shoot. But of course we all know how they will look in a week or a month: rusty. I too am interested in hearing a current discussion of the uncoupling technique. Now I just wish there were an easy way to convert certain selected AF rolling stock... Roy Inman From: "Charles E. This presumes track is flat with smaller bumps or dips. There was a thread running here a while ago on using Kadees including electromagnetic uncouplers.. Apparently several people are working on or have worked on the magnet locations for optimum performance. In any case they're better than the big claws. I'm thinking of tearing it down and rebuilding it on a more scale basis. The current layout measures 11X32. My new one would be a shelf-type perimeter layout in my 15X40 train room. I have to finish the walls, drop the ceiling and replace the windows before any of that will take place, so it won't happen overnight. Is the new scale rolling stock from SHS & American Models well-suited for a lot of yard switching with their Kadee couplers? I know that under the best of circumstances, vintage Flyer is hit-and- miss when it comes to yard switching, using vintage rolling stock with the huge knuckle couplers, turnouts & track.
