I may be a little out of the main stream on this, but if S grew very
popular, I'd probably change to another scale. We probably take for
granted the benefits of being a small group.

This comment (quoted above) has got to be the biggest discouragement to
my interest in and involvement with S scale.
John Degnan

Mr. John....If the comment of one fellow who acknowledges that he is
"out of the mainstream" bothers you this much, then you are doomed to
unending disappointments. S scale, by it's nature, tends to attract
those who are not satisfied with the mass media HO environment. We like
things more tailored to our specific and precise desires than what can
be found in the corner hobby shop. We are willing to put forth the
extra effort and time and expense that it takes to obtain/make what we
really want -- which is not just another Athearn hopper car. And
several of the S guys enjoy the comradeship as much as or more than the
trains themselves. I mean can you really imagine attending the NASG
auction without Jamie Bothwell cracking his corny jokes. It just
wouldn't be worth the trip. There used to be a guy who stomped on AF
plastic cabooses when acting as Auctioneer. Scale folks would go just
to cheer him on and rid the planet of some AF stuff. Not me, of course,
but "others" who need to remain nameless for their own safety. Let's
face it, we are all nutz to one degree or another. If S scale becomes
so large that some folks move on to another scale, so what? S scale
will still be larger than ever before -- either with 'em or without 'em.
Let's be tolerant and move on with getting an Evans Auto Loader built.
More fun will come in due time as you get to know us better. Learn to
ignore the fringe element since they are ignoring you. Ha! Cheers...Ed
L.
