Butch, This recent announcement is of course, great news for us
western/midwest fans. However, the announcement talks about Harriaman
engines not necessarily UP. You may remember that Southwind Models
announced a similar project a few years back and most of that project
was for the SP & TNO styles. The UP version was a step child of the
program, as it seems there are more SP guys than UP. I don't know of
RR's plans but I have heard rumors of it being a similar plan. guess we
will just have to wait a bit and start saving our quarters! This is a
double whammy for me as I have several of the Milwaukee Cabooses
coming--and they are super important to me!

Actually the UP fans have had it pretty good even though it been awhile
since we've had something new. We've had the Big Boy (they can be made
to run great) , the Challenger (also needs some work--I've got one in
the box that needs work), the FEF is a great running engine with loads
of detail, Southwind 2-8-0 is a smooth runner although a little shy of
detail, SHS's 2-8-0 with a little work in the detail area is a super
running engine. Of course the gas turbine was a milestone production
and all the E units and the SD-40-2's, (some being UP specific). Also
everything that American Models made comes with a UP paint job. And of
course, I have a SW-9 and a few F-3's from SHS in the armour yellow
scheme also. So if you can accept some stand-ins in the plastic arena
we have lot's of diesel power and a fair amount of steam. Also don't
forget about the upcoming 0-6-0 , although many of us might have
forgotten about that one, John was at the last convention talking it up.

Face it, if I modeled the IC, L&N or the CGW my choices would be pretty
limited for steam power unless I was rolling my own!
