Hi Jim and All --

I don't think Testors paints are any more durable than they used to be, but
you can get their Metalizer line in spray cans which includes a sealer
(separate can and purchase) to protect the finish. The sealer is a must
for the Metalizer paint, but it might also work with the regular paints
(TEST FIRST, I have not tried this!).

I actually had a car painted with Pactra silver (they are the packagers of
Testors now) that needed some touchup. When I washed the car body with
water in the sink, ALL the paint came off (this was an enamel spray!).
After cleaning all of it up, it got repainted with Testors, and that has
lasted pretty well. I still have to do some more paint and decal work on
the car(s), so the water issue might come back to haunt again. I think I
would now consider Tamiya sprays before any other kind...

Have fun!

been sealed and sanded. The stuff is meant to act as a "plating" and
show all detail... Otherwise, I think it is a great idea.

I've never used the foil, though it sounds interesting. Being lazy,
I glued 0.005" styrene across the roof of JC Models cars so I did not
have to sand seal. Years ago I also used Testor's Chrome paint. The
finished passenger cars looked great but were easily marred and were
very hard to fix decals or dry transfers to. Hopefully chrome paints
available today are more durable and easier to finish...
