Yup, I agree exactly with your reasons for proto-lancing. That is why it is
has reared its head again in my modeling.

No need for any apologies that I see, Bob! The switcher schemes are
particularly nice. Again, that is the sort of thing that makes me lean back
toward proto-lancing. It looks like you're having a LOT of fun with your S
scale hobby... and isn't that what this is supposed to be about?

And that is a viable avenue for many, I'm sure. In fact, in my opinion,
there are so many ways to "enjoy" model railroading that there really is no
"correct" way of doing it. Each modeler has to determine for him/herself
what is the best approach for their "givens 'n d'ruthers". In my case, I
prefer to attempt emulating what I find interesting about the prototype. I
see model railroading as a vehicle to bring alive memories I've experienced
(even if somewhat sureal), or see an era/region I wasn't there to see... but
in an acceptable setting for my "givens 'n d'ruthers". Again, in my
opinion, one really needs heavy doses of sheer artistry to carry off the
"Gorre & Daphetid" approach in model railroading. I do not possess such
artistry. (If I did, modeling Colorado 1890's narrow gauge would be even
more tempting.)

Bingo. Great minds, and all that.
That is exactly what I am leaning toward now. This opens the issue I'm
debating now, namely: Do I completely proto-lance the "home road", or
"enhance" an existing prototype to encompass what I need?

Once more, you've nailed my idea/concept squarely on the head.

You were doing GREAT enabling my cravings... BUT... you just couldn't leave
it there, could YOU???
Oh no... you HAD to go and get practical, didn't you??? <g>
(Sigh)
You're right... but locomotives and paint schemes and concepts and
philosophies and... well... it's just SO MUCH FUN!!
Thanks to all thus far that have taken of your time to share your thoughts!
