Art and Tim,
I'm using .047 piano wire made by K&S Engineering for my Bluepoint and Tortoise
machines. I bought it at my local Ace Hardware. It's working on a mix of
commercial and scratchbuilt turnouts; some places through 4" of foam and
benchwork. Of course you need to drill out the holes in the fulcrum and
actuating rod to accommodate the larger wire size.

I had the same problem as Tim with the Blue Point machine - not the fault of
the machine. My turnouts are home-made and require more force than commercial
turnouts. The Blue Point is strong enough but the wire connector has too much
yield.
I replaced the wire with a piece of brass strip and a short wire soldered to
the strip. The first one I tried this way worked well and I am now converting
some others to see if it is a real fix.
I put two pictures in a folder in the photo section of the Yahoo group home.
The folder title is Blue Point beef-up.

Subject: {S-Scale List} Upgrade for Blue Points
Hi all,
Some of us use the Blue Point under-table turnout controllers and I
believe I have found a way to "upgrade" them from HO scale to S scale.
The "piano" wire they include has a bit too much flex in it to keep the
frog points closed as well as I would like. I replaced it with a 3/32"
hollow brass tube.
