Hi Steve;
I think the cars you are asking about are also
commonly called "General Service Gondolas" and were
often used in preference to hoppers by western roads
UP/SP/ATSF/D&RGW as well as some others. Plans may be
found in the general model RR press or the Trainshed
Cyclopedia reprints from the Car Builder's Cyclopedia.
W.A. Drake imported brass versions of these cars about
10 years ago, but other than the USRA gon already
mentioned I don't know of any commonly available
models in S.
