Dear Art,
What type of roof is on your reefer? I beleive the ice hatches with
the wood platform were used on steel roofs only. We offer this on our
reefers with steel roofs. All of the drawings I have seen of ice
hatches on cars with wooden roofs are just a wooden door with no
platform. I think the sprue with 4 platforms and 4 ice hatch covers is
$5 plus S/H.
Best regards,
Don
The Grandt ice hatches are very well done. They used to be supplied
with the Scenery remakes of the old Kinsman cars. What I'm not sure of
is their prototype. Other alternatives would be the old Stewart (now
Huff and Puff) hatches that come in two styles at least. If one were to
update the roof you could replace it with the Pacific Rail roof and
hatches. Again I don't have a clue if it's half way prototypical to do
so. Unfortunately a repaint of the roof will probably be necessary.
