Hello - Thanks for the assistance. I have been looking on the Internet for some prototype pictures - with not much luck. I think your question really focuses me.
I looked again at the cars and at the Grandt pictures and decided that what I really wanted to do was get rid of the big lumps at the hinges. The existing hatch looks as good or perhaps better than the Grandt - because of the barn-door hinges on the Grandt - and I don't want a big job that requires painting or too much surgery. I will try to cut off the lumps and see how it works - that would be a minimum of paint touch up and probably keep me happy. If it is not enough I can always do more. Thanks again.
