Tom,
You can say that again. In the Bethlehem area we have lost three
hobby shops in the last couple years. Interestingly enough the two
that carry some S are still around. I guess one that closed had some
S too. The owner of one that closed told me that there was a week in
the winter where the shop had no sales! He said that during the
"Going Out of Business Sale" guys came in and saw the 60% off signs
and said, "When is it going down more. You can still get it cheaper
on the net!" Hobby shops complain that everyone is buying off the
web. Yet they don't carry S, and we S scale guys routinely buy at
retail. This has always fascinated me. In truth I think the entire
hobby is looking at some tough times ahead regardless of scale. How
about other hobby activities? I can't imagine who builds military
models any more. The same kits I bought for $1 are $10 now. Same
tooling! Same box art!
