IMO, yes they are if you put a throttle in their hand. My evidence?
The big ol' smile on my 9-year old son's face when he runs the SHS 2-
8-0. Thank you Don Thompson.

Because what we do is FUN. We just need to show the kids (younger
generation) what we do, and let them try it.

While I agree it is important to have models of the current stuff
running the rails, based on my own experience, it is not the critical
component. Being born after the end of steam and 1st generation Black
Widow diesels on the SP did stop me from being a modeler of this era
from the time I was a teenager. The hook was the train set at age 6
from Mom & Dad (and Santa). The hook was set when some very kind
gentlemen and excellent modelers allowed this young whippersnapper to
operate trains on their beautiful layouts.

One of my most cherished model RR memories was visiting a spectacular
O scale layout when I was 8. I wish I could remember the fellow's
name. He had me run the trains and when I left, he gave me a tower
building. I have had that building almost 40 years - it sits on my
workbench where I see every time I work on my projects.

Underlying the question of "why should any kid want to join us old
geezers", I think is the more important question of "what are we
doing to encourage the kids to join us"?

Just one "geezer's" opinion of course.

Back to the workbench,
