the Zamac and other White metals can oxidize into a dust, where as Pewter,
(softer) and Zinc - harder alloys should not doo this under normal conditions,
but it is always a very slight possibility. ERTL tractors are die cast zinc,
pressurized castings, and most have lasted decades w/o any damage, but I have
seen a few with oxidation problems. Perhaps a poor mix of alloys? or exposure
to chemicals, or other oxidents?
Treat you castings correctly, paint, or other finish, compatible with the alloy.
Store properly, climate and moisture control, now I don't mean museum specs,
but avoid extremes in climate change.
