Tim-Ed,
I think I'll put my .02 in. If a scale layout is completely finished and
you're looking around for something else to do, I guess working accessories is
another avenue one might pursue. I don't think I understand why "now is the
time". Isn't that kind of a matter of preference? I have no interest in such
things. Scalers are generally too busy running a railroad to spend time
fiddling with gimmicks. Scale model railroading is an adult hobby. No one
denies the fact that kids are going to be attracted to these mechanisms, but is
it worth the time, effort, and trouble on a scale layout? I surely wouldn't
want the problems that coal dust would generate. Mature kids who are
introduced to model railroading find themselves as occupied as adults. It's
another difference that makes this an interesting hobby.

I couldn't care less whether Hi-railers use AF or scale couplers. Why does
anyone care whether scalers have automated accessories on their individual
layouts? What am I missing?

          Ed,

Uh-huh. Whatever. Anyway, all jesting and jousting aside, I am very
happy to see your ringing endorsement to the concept of reworking old
ACG accessories to the point where they can nicely fit into a fine-
scale RR. This has been done many times on hi-rail layouts and I think
now is the time for the fine-scalers to take the idea to the next
level. I have already heard from one gentleman off list that 0n3 fine-
scalers in the Pacific Northwest have started doing this as well.
Perhaps this is the start of a movement and I am glad to see you
willing to lend your inspiration to it and become a part of it.

Thanks for doing what you do,
Tim Brown
