Ed L's original message was: "Bob...Maybe we should have
two hobbies: Model Railroading and Purchase
Railroading. One for those who make (model) what they
need/want and the other for those who only buy things.
Cheers...Ed L."
I buy what I can and build the rest.

every one of us builds, and every one buys.

Ed, I suspect most if not all modelers are in fact
in both model railroading and in purchase railroading.

would you be willing to give up everything on
your layout that you did not make yourself?

Gents.....Sorry if I did not make myself clear in the original message.
Please note the word "only". I was referring to those who ONLY purchase
stuff as being Purchasing Railroaders since, by daffynition, they do not
build anything. In HO, you can have a reasonably decent complete layout
with only purchased items. Not quite as easy in S scale, but doable with an
AF layout. Just trying to make a distinction here with full realization
that nearly all of us on this List do both. Only the pure tinplater (or
similar) are Purchasing Railroaders since they assemble purchased items as
opposed to creating new items through some modeling efforts. I think I am
carrying this discussion beyond the point of reasonableness. I wanted to
clarify my thinking for anyone with nothing better to do than to think about
my thinking, or lack thereof -- or something like that -- or whatever. I
think..... :o)
Cheers...Ed L.
