Well said Bill,

It's unfortunate that the NASG (and maybe the NMRA) does have all the
'help' money to do even more projects. When the first NASG/AF cars were
introduced I bought a couple of each for two reasons--to help the NASG
and to perhaps speculate on making some cash on the resale market. The
NASG project was successful and I later raised enough money to satisfy
my urge to go into DCC. Not a bad thing as far as I can tell.

I also bought into a couple of the brass projects and still have them on
my layout. Again not a bad thing!

I have purchased items from the NASG, the NMRA, local clubs and a few
items from the various historical societies. I hope none of them ever
make a nickel's profit but I do want to support the projects that
benefit us in general. I have extremely limited financial resources
(ever hear of a starving artist?) but I do what I can and I devote many
hours of volunteer work for these organizations.

That being said, there might be a fine line regarding what project
should be helped and what should be left to either die or be left to the
manufacturers to fund themselves. We (NASG) shouldn't be competing with
our manufactures directly, but when basic needs are aren't met the NASG
needs to be there to either sell the product or to provide the seed
money for it.
