Hi Ken,

I re-wired for DCC and used 3M's T-Tap connectors. These can be used with
any size wire combinations. The T-Tap clamps on to your buss wire and you
connect to it with a spade connector. The T-Taps come in 3 sizes. You can get
them from Digikey, part numbers:

  12 ga 920074-03 ND
  18 - 14 920074-02 ND
  22 - 18 920074-01 ND

I use 12 ga buss wires with 22 ga feeders. This system really works great.

Just a little news from the Pines and Prairies S Scale workshop. We
are working out some wiring conventions to use and the subject of the
suitcase connector came up. Can these be used when you are
commecting smaller feeder wires to your main bus? Consider a 12 Ga
stranded wire buss and then needing 20 or 22 gauge feeders to go a
foot or two to the track?
Jeff Saine of the PPSSW started his layout a few months ago, what an
interesting experience, he started with a good design by Dave
Jasper. Bob Christopherson and Tom Lennon supervised drawing this
out on large craft paper in full size. we then cut all of the legs,
risers and the sub roadbed. When all this was done, the benchwork
was installed and now the roadbed and track are going in. What a
neat way to build a layout.
The PPSSSW has a portable layout over at the Minnesota transportation
Museum for the holiday season. I built the layout using SHS
sectional track using the Maywood Junction plan (sort of). I brought
over an SW1 in GN colors and a set of GN glacer green ore cars I had
in the basement, some of the other guys have loaned us cars. The
layout is set up with chairs in front of it and we invite the kids to
come and run the trains. The open top cars are filled with tokens or
other things so the kids can stop the train and move them from car to
car. There are also a number of ertel vehicles ther for them to play
with. It is great fun watching the kids play and many of the parents
are having as much fun. The little SW1 is putting in about seven
hours a day and the wheels on the ore cars are getting shinney as the
blackening agent is worn off.
I recieved the Des Plaines laser cut caboose kit this week. It is
beautiful, I think worth the wait. Time to clear up a few other
projects so I can give this some attention. I also picked up a small
bag of the Mullet River Whistle Post signs, what a great detail.
Finally, Steve Doyle had concrete sidewalk kits from Bar Mills that I
recommend taking a look at.
