We S scale modelers have indeed had trouble with our magazines!
I myself subscribed to the original "S Gauge Herald" for all but the
first year or two of its run. (What an amazing publication! I don't
see how it's success could be duplicated today.) I also subscribed to
Ed Loizeaux's and to Bill Wade's magazines. The cover of the current
"S Gaugian" doesn't upset me, because I don't regularly read it and
haven't seen this one.
From my perspective as a reader, a magazine requires an editor and a
publisher. The editor is in charge of content and the publisher
handles the business side. A successful magazine attracts readers with
its articles, while advertisers pay for ads to sell products to those
readers.
The preceding magazine formula worked well, despite the challenges,
until about ten years ago. Today, thanks to the Internet, the delivery
of information is changing. It appears to be shifting from the paper
periodical to the continuously updated PC screen.
S scalers are caught in the wilderness, waiting for the dust to
settle. We know there are things out there that we'd like to buy and
ideas we'd like to explore. The old formula is broken, and nobody has
yet thought of a new one that will be successful going forward.
