We all have our loyalties to various systems very similar to tribal loyalties in the far East, although I haven't herd of any heads being chopped off as yet.
I bought the Digitrax Chief mainly because it's carried locally and seemed to have a loyal following. I believe they were the first with a reliable radio control system which is a must for me. In the earlier years (when I needed it) their phone service was excellent also. A couple of years ago I purchased an additional used Chief setup with several throttles, tons of NCE decoders fairly cheaply. I kept what I wanted and e-bayed the rest. I was pleasantly surprised in the demand for this used equipment. The best help will come from local guys who will help you with the system you decide on--I don't think there are any bad systems, but there are limited systems! The major downfall for a beginner is the language used by the various suppliers--they all speak a different language in their manuals. Perhaps we need to insist on a U. N. conference in finding a univesal DCC language--actually the NMRA committe might have some influence here even though the train has already left the station.
