Hi Jim,

I had a chance to ride that line about 2 years ago. A really nice ride!
Unfortunately the 2-6-6-2T was not being used that day. I really wanted to
see it run. Just my luck, a day late and a dollar short.

The DPV boyz have been working on a modified gear tower for an
Allegheny to address some of the noise. Stay tuned...

It is a double edged sword because I do like the operating character,
just not the tower's "whirring". I am always concerned about "the
law of unintended consequences"! Address the noise and something
else changes. No other single locomotive I have seen will pull as
much at a dead crawl as the 2-6-6-6. I would hate to see that change!

BTW, just returned from a trip to South Dakota. We had a great trip
behind and then chasing the 2-6-6-2T on the Blackhills Central.
Really a first class tourist RR, of course Mount Rushmore ain't too
  shabby either!
