Nothing, other than the fact that it has Flyer flanges. The Flyer
Pacific's and Mikes are fine locomotives in their own right, although
some scaler's have complained about some of the fidelity.

Lionel uses their propietary TMCC sound and control system that is
not compatible with DCC. Probably adds about $100.00 to $125.00 to
the locomotive. And Lionel don't do straight DC.

The Lionel Pacific runs extremely well under TMCC, a little rough on
AC, and is not compatible with DC. I would still award the running
prize to the AM Pacific, mainly because it doesn't rely on the side
rods to transfer motion.

Lionel TMCC sound is pretty good, can hold it's own against Tsunami,
although chuff is by moicro-switch and is only two chuffs per
revolution.

Well, lets see... The AM Pacific is metal (with plastic tender,) the
AM 4-8-4 is all metal with the Santa Fe tender, and the SHS 2-8-0 is
metal with plastic tender. The Flyonel 4-6-2's and 2-8-2's are metal
stem to stearn. In HO, Athearn, Bachmann, BLI and Life-Like go with
metal for their steam locomotives. Metal seems to be the material of
choice.

The illustrations in the Lionel catalogs are heavily photoshopped
(for decoration) photo's, but do give a good representainon of the
product.
