David,

Welcome to the S Scale list. I have taken you off of moderation - you are
free to post at will. Not to worry, the list members never eat the newbies.
They only bludgeon Slobbering Pennsy Freaks and moderators.....

I guess your route depends on what your end goal is. If you go with the AF,
then that means you will be locked into at last hirail operation because
that is the only wheel option. I was the table next to Lionel years ago when
they surprise dropped the 2-8-2. I thought it looked pretty nice but I will
never own 1 with Hirail wheels. I did not even know that A F made a Pacific
until this morning.

So if simply putting 2 Missouri Pacific decals on your new eBay win makes
you happy then go for it. But I sense that is not your true end result. For
a real challenge, you could go the way of Andy Malette
http://www.mlwservices.ca that makes new correct boilers and tenders for
American Models drives or it might be getting 1 of the Overland brass
Pacifics if you can find 1. You are at just the beginning of the process of
becoming an S Scaler. You don’t have to take the leap all at once!

Thank You,
Bill Lane
