----- Original Message ----- From: Bob Werre . . . . . . . The guys in the office were going crazy trying to get a couple of reefer containers started again. Seems they had quit running on board ship . . . . . . . . . the financial damage of delivering two reefers of black bananas would make heads roll! > > > > > > > > > Interesting. I don't know much about Gulf shipping, but the ocean shipping I've read about has the reefer containers plug into the ship's power supply, although if there are more refrigerated containers than that power supply can accomodate, they will load into the ship some kind of auxiliary power supply. Or so I've read.
Those nose-mounted gen-sets are modular and easily interchangeable, I think. There is also the type that mounts under the highway chassis. They just put out the electrical power. The compressor and associated regulating equipment are contained within the front end of the container. Here's something to read if you're interested, and go click on the line that says "Reefer Instructions and Safety Video" in the center. It starts out with a little promotional speech, but pretty soon you're looking at a reefer on chassis with the gen-set mounted under the chassis.
