    Yeah, that's the problem. If we put on better couplers then we
need operating airhoses( Haven't been able to find S sized magnets yet
but they work great in O scale) narrower wheel treads with better
backs some would add, better rails with better tie,spike and bolt
details etc. I've found a car looks best when it is all built to a
certain level of scaleness, adding just one nicer part doesn't help it
out, it just brings out the other less nice areas. Sargent couplers on
a typical S scale car din't make enough difference in appearance to be
work the trouble.If you add true scale couplers then you need to cut
off the stirrup steps and make new thin ones, etc. Working in various
scales and sizes makes one more aware of the possibilities and
satisfaction of adding or leaving off details. Detailing N scale is a
completely different game compared to O scale. N relies on distance
and visual suggestion while O requires actual parts. HO and S are in
the middle ground so can work with either approach, just a matter of
what one wants to accomplish and how much money, time and effort is
available to put into it...........dave
