Hi Ed --
Most of the "weighted" cars are still less than NMRA practices, and several
were VERY light (I make my test trains TEST my track), but some of the brass
cars and their trucks can make for poor performances, even if the trucks are
replaced. Most of the train was made up of plastic cars with free rolling
trucks. I will play with strategically placed additional weight in the
loco as time goes by...
In other words, I agree with you Ed!
Have fun!

I prefer something in the vicinity of 50-66% of the NMRA suggestions. Thus,
much lighter and longer trains are possible. Unless you have very
sharp curves on very steep grades, is all that weight really needed?
Has anyone done some organized/controlled testing to see what works and
what tips over? Just curious and not intending to criticize Bill
Winan's weighting preferences in the least. But if the weight were
reduced by one-third, perhaps the length of the train could be
increased by one-third -- or something like that.
Cheers...Ed L.
