Another idea is photo backdrops. Not the purchased kind, but printing out your
own on copy (not photo) paper. I'm working with a guy now that is doing this,
and if I hadn't seen it in person, wouldn't believe it. It is on an HO layout,
but his 24" wide (at the widest) layout looks like it expands for miles. He is
careful to keep buildings in the far distance, so a distorted perspective won't
occur. His actual photo backdrop is only 4-5" high - he cuts down the printout
and feathers in the sky painted on the backdrop.
