You are correct in asking about the interface requirements at the
module ends.  That really is the major requirement.  SMOD specifies
rail height from the floor, rail gauge, electrical connections between
modules, distance between main lines (if more than one) and bridge
rail length.  I can't think of anything else.  Other than that, do
what you want.
