. . . . . If you want to build a 20' switching layout, it only needs to have
compatible track interface at both ends, everything else for the intervening
20' is up to you. It simply becomes a single 20' long module. . . . . . . .

This is true. I'm familiar with several long multi-section modules. The
sections always go to gether the same way, but the two ends of the
assemblage meet the NASG standards. How the intermediate sections mate is
of no concern, except to the owner, because they're not intended to be
independant modules, only sections of one big module.

Bill Lane says "The biggest things are a 2" blank space of rail with ties on
each end interfacing with other S Mod modules. . . ." Meaning rail ends 2
inches from the end of the module, but I've proposed in the current S-Mod
revision process that this be changed to one inch. Consideration of this
was postponed, but I intend to make my future modules that way, and just
bring 3 inch bridge rails along.

Is that what you are looking for or am I indeed confused??
I can always go back to detailing NYC H6 light mikes and let Ed, Ted
and the boys clarify things...

but the problem is making the ends compatible with the module
standards and at the same time providing a reasonable layout
geometry.
