Darrell,
I think there was a miss-communication. I did not split the
engine; I split the track down the middle and spread it so the engine
would fit on it. Since I used S-helper track and had to expand it I
believe this model might be larger than standard gauge S scale. It
might be a perfect wide gauge that many 1800s lines used. The engine
does lend itself to easy modification. I removed the rear platform
and ladders and it immediately looked more prototypical. Since I
have my Christmas items out I could send you a photo if you would
like. I started the project three years ago because there was no
decent train stocking holders. I basically got a wood plaque base at
Michael's and stained it dark brown. A brass hook from Home Depot,
fake snow from Dept 56, a couple of pine trees from Hobby Lobby, and
S-helper track was added. I permanently mounted the engine to the
modified track. One could build the base and not permanently attach
the train model. This way a different engine, box car, caboose, etc
could be used each year to change things up. I do work at Hallmark
Cards when I'm not taking my nueroscince classes or doing the
National Guard thing. This year they have a Lionel stocking holder.
It looks pretty good and would be HO scale if its any scale. It's a
pacific class steamer with basically Southern Railway's Crescent
Limited paint scheme. Just an idea for a quick train stocking holder
fix.
