All,

I guess the NASG convention is possibly many different things to many
people. For me it is a vacation to places I have never been, and probably
would not go unless there was a driving reason. It is a source of tours I
would not be able to go on myself. It is MOST importantly a FAMILY REUNION
to see my "brothers from another mother" I have not seen since the last NASG
convention. If I get some new toys in the process that is all the better...

For some it is a place to sell, be it a private person of a manufacturer.
But just because they are there to sell it does not mean it is NOT their
vacation as well, or should not be enjoyed. Tradition lately has been to
shut the whole place down to go on 1 all day tour. I pretty much agree this
is a good idea. If the management of the convention thinks keeping the
vendor room open during such a tour is good then you should sit in the
vendor's room for the whole day and count how many people are still there.
it will not be many IMHO. If the planners are mostly sellers the room will
be open more. If the planners want to put on a vacation atmosphere, it is
open less. It IS the big debate that is decided on a yearly basis. Further,
the planning is largely reinvented year after year....

For those that try to attend on a hit n run basis, I say thanks for trying.
But I think you are selling yourself rather short. There is so much more to
the convention then a tour or what is in the vendor's room. Can you put a
price on hanging out in Jamie and Andy's room after everything closes for
the day, especially if the place gets rockin? The "will they get the police
to come knocking this year" element is truly priceless! If it is a matter of
finances with a little preplanning a roomie can usually be had by fishing on
this list. The full convention facilities are included in the registration.
You get full access to the vendor's room, clinics and that wonderful S
family reunion.... Donna and I have gone swimming at times if the hotel has
a pool.

So, can the NASG cover everyone's wants and interests? No not a chance. But
I think most have largely done a very good job and trying to do it.....

BTW, I have not been active on it lately, but the thought of the NASG in
South Jersey in 2012 still remains with me.

Thank You,
Bill Lane
