I'm trying to replace the two axle trucks (Andrews) that came installed, with the three axle trucks (Commonwealth) that were packed separately. I'd appreciate a response from members who have completed this replacemant.
Question 1: Can I insert an axle from a freight truck as the new middle axle? Question 2: When I test fitted a freight axle, two molded studs on the Commonwealth bolster pressed against the axle and it wouldn't rotate. Why are studs that tall? Question 3: The Andrews' brass wire contacts don't fit the axle spacing on the Commonwealth. Should I substitute the contacts for an A.M. lightweight car truck? Their spacings are the same. NOTE: A.M.'s Commonwealth is shorter than those in published scale drawings. Did Commonwealth actually cast them in more than one length? Question 4: Are "molded studs" (see Question 2) the key to Question 3? If so, where do the screws go, in view that those studs are not drilled and tapped? Thanks for your assistance, and Happy New Year to all. Don Hand [email protected] ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
