Just curious, if such an item was available i.e. a detailed replacement
underframe for an American Models ACF 50' Railbox, would it be a seller in any
volume to make it a project worthwhile pursuing?
With the nicely detailed DPH Evans, FMC and forthcoming PS boxcar along with
Smoky Mountains detailed "S"tuff, I would like my AM boxcars to enjoy the same
level of underframe detail. Yeah, you have to turn 'em over to notice but
turning a car over to enjoy the hidden detail is one of the first things I do.
So, I would like to retrofit AM boxcars with decent underframes without having
to scratchbuild each one. I am thinking of a high quality and detailed resin
cast replacement that you would plug your own brake gear/details into.
Basically, just the underframe itself.
If you are not prototypically picky, perhaps the underframe could be used as a
basis to scratchbuild 1970's era X-post boxcars if overhanging diag or x panel
roofs could be built or obtained.
Anyone interested in such a drop in underframe? If so, how many would you
commit to?
