First things first,
Here's the web site http://www.nycrrmuseum.org/index.html

Second thought...................
Every RR museum works the best that they can given what space
and equipment they have. The Railroad Museum of PA is exactly
that. Read it again. It's the RR museum of PA. Not the PRR Museum
of PA and as a PRR fan it was in pretty bad shape a while ago. Sure
there was the "indoor collection" of nice items. Then there was the
"outdoor collection". Really rusty and rough. Anything stored outside
for decades gets like this. But they had a plan. Build an extension,
de-toxify the equipment and do a cosmetic restoration. Yes they
rotate items for outdoor storage but the items are better now than
they had been. My only issue is the there are 2 runable engines.
Atlantic 7002 and American 1223. 7002 needs main frame repairs.
Forgot about what's wrong with 1223. If Britian can build a NEW
engine I think the museum should repair or build a new frame. Not a
real big deal. I'm in the Steam Traction hobby and you would not
believe how many new boilers are being found on these engines. If a
private owner can do it a state museum should be able to also.
(oops thars Penna I'm talkin about! I forgot about 1365) The NYC
museum was a dream of an Elkhart man who I feel ran out of
money. The city got involved and the current museum is the proof of
commitment. It's located on a siding with a great curve on the
mainline. It's not meant to be a Union Ill or a Sacramento Ca
museum. See? Another set of museums with different focus.
Restoration and Display vs Save, Restore and Run.
OK I ran out of breath...........Later, Ken
