I've been following the thread on the PRR colors with some amusement. I
have several
bottles of paint from the same paint manufacture. All were purchased within a
five year
period. The labels all say "PRR freight car red", but there are three different
colors in the
bunch. I guess maybe the PRR never could decide what color they would use? No,
the
supplier keeps changing me thinks.
I have had the same problem with the D&RGW yellow. Scalecoat use to provide
a color
they called "Old Fort Car" (I always wondered where they got that name) I
thought it was
right on for the D&RGW color but it has since been discontinued.
I now have some PRR brass passenger cars that are to be painted next
week. I solved
the color problem buy requiring the customer to provide paint and decals. I
paint color
swatches on some scrap brass for approval before I paint the model. I even
apply a little of
the decal that is to be used and overspray with their choice of final finish
on the swatch. If
they are happy with that I then paint the model.
The NYC guys now have an online site with lots of neat color photos. I
just finished a
couple of the NYC cars, all in what I think is the wrong color according to
the color photos
posted online. I did send a color swatch to the customer and he said it was the
color he
wanted! I haven't lettered them yet, I have a feeling he will want a repaint.
I should mention I am expensive. I have found another painter (thank
you Earl) that I
can send individuals to, and I am trying to increase the list of possible
painters.
Almost forgot, all the work I do is S Scale only (sorry Bill, I'm not
trying to steal your
name here)
