Ed,

I can't speak for HO or narrow gauge models, in general S has held is value
for the most part. I think it is more so about timing though. There was just
a gorgeous Conrail SD40-2 with Anti-Climber which is a rare model that did
not break $400.00. I am not in the train buying game right now, especially
if it if not for the 1956 era, but I would have had to think about that 1 as
I do have 1 Conrail SD40-2 too. Conversely a group of O Scale freight cars
(Mostly Pacific Limited - from different sellers I think) went for $800.00+
in the winter & spring of this year. These cars would have been about
$275.00 new.

I own the Brass Collectors group.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/brasscollectors They get into "value and
eBay" threads at times. I have learned a bit about older collecting. Some
only want unpainted models and do NOT run them. I hope that disease is not
contagious!

I might be a bit jaded but I think the older PRR steam locos, particularly
the L1 hold their value. There was only 45 made with about 40 originally
sold to the public. I don't think 1 L1 a year changes hands. You could have
gotten a K4 and L1 new for $1000.00 in about 1988. The least I have ever
paid for mine was $900.00 and the last 1 I know of sold for $1600.00

Thank You,
Bill Lane
