Ed,
No doubt others have more knowledge than I. Those are considered all-door 
boxcars and were used to haul plywood mostly I think. When I lived in 
Nacogdoches, TX in the late 70's and 80's the local plywood plant would load 6 
or 8 of these type cars inside the building at one time. I think Masonite also 
had some of these cars.
