I remember talking to Mike (? I think that was his last name
is...McCormick???) about the upcoming reefer. He told me they were
thinking of making one based on his O gauge car. We had the stock car
and single sheathed USRA boxcar at the time. I told him we would be
doing a all wood reefer in the future and that was part of the 40'
boxcar project (with the rebuilt steel cars as well as the USRA double
sheathed cars). I asked him about the ladders and he told me they
would be cast on. I begged him to make the a separate detail as I
thought that cast on ladders would be a hugh step backwards for the
gauge. I was not worried about he prototype as there were so many
different rebuilt wooden reefers rebuilt different ways by the same
shops I did not think it would be that important. We became dealers
for him and sold quite a few. If I remember correctly the main reason
they stopped making these was his problem in finding production help
for the pad printing. I am sure Doug Peck knows more as I think that
he was a driving force behind the reefer project.
