Dear Wes
One of my Kidder 44-tonners with Wagner drive is painted for SV #3; the
lettering (individual letters) came out nicely except for the #3 on the cab
sides. Not sure what to do about that.
The RR brass 44-tonner has Ph III hoods, while the SV #3 was a Ph IV with
shutters and screening on top of the hoods. Actually the PA Heritage resin
body unit would be an easier starting point (come to think of it, I haven't
decided how to paint mine yet); I did replace the footboards with scratchbuilt
brass ones--a great improvement, if I do say so myself--and adapted SHS short
draftgear couplers for a much improved appearance.
I've thought more than once about SV #1 as an O scale scratchbuilding
project--it is a lovely small stock semi-modern shortline locomotive prototype.
And my memory may be suffering, but I thought #2 was a 43T unit?
I have saved a LaBelle combine kit for rebuilding as the most-common
RPO-Baggage-Passenger car to go with my Kidder.
