Many moons ago one of our members who modeled mostly in O but built a few exceptionally well done S models, entered an engine in a local NMRA sanctioned contest. I don't know if he forgot to list the scale, but it was judged as a On3 model! The model graced one of Heimbergers booklets about that time. The engine was a totally rebuilt Nord Mikado with PFM sound that was popular in the day.
