Check for an ICC regulation that relaxed the need for roof access to cabooses,
similar to that of allowing ladders to be half-height on boxcars; the joke came
that you could tape a $100.00 bill to the roof and no one would ever find it.
Cabooses became a thing of the past shortly after that. DJE

Subject: {S-Scale List} American Models Cabooses

I just bought one each of the AM bay-window and wood cupola cabooses, which
nicely complement the SHS EV modern
and the AF "northeastern steel" kind. The bay-window is a puzzle to me,
however, as it lacks end ladders and roofwalk,
and a couple of others currently listed on ebay and the AM website are
confusing as to whether it should have had them.
So far as I can tell, some AM bay-window cabooses have them and some
don't--but the SAME roadname sometimes seems
to and at other times doesn't. No rhyme nor reason that I can discern.
Perhaps those who've been in S scale far longer than I can explain what is
going on?

I have nothing against SP (I bought an SHS SP SW-1 six or eight weeks ago,
and one of these will probably end up paired
with it), but I am thinking the bay-window is a lot like the C&NW cars, so it
may end up repainted.
