I think the awareness of under body detail (brake systems) goes in a few
stages; at least it did for me.

1. General awareness that there was "stuff" down there.

2. Identifying the major parts, and making sure "all" were there. "All" is in
quotes because in this case it meant three parts for AB brakes and one for K
type.

3. Awareness that various rods, levers and pipes should also be there. There
followed periods of denial, insisting that "nobody" will miss some or all of
it. This may also be the point you discover different systems, like KD (split
K) as well as AB or KC.

4. The realization that the fittings are not really glued to the floor, or even
bolted to the floor boards. Each car requires some effort to determine where
the components were located and how the brackets that hold the parts are
attached to the underframe of the car.

The brackets included in the Grandt line AB set work great, with a couple of
triangles of styrene, for mounting the brake cylinder to the center sill (this
is almost always where that component goes).

To be honest, I still do not put most or any under body detail on cars with
really deep fish belly sides like the AF flatcar.
