There's a theory in linguistics that say that if enough native speakers of a
language use a certain term, that makes it correct, or at least an
acceptable variant.
But this subject came up in another group, the MFCL group I think. There
someone cited a picture of stenciling on modernized, real boxcar. It said
"Keep off roof, no Running Board." That ended the discussion.
