I'm guessing the NYC guru you seek is Dick Karnes, but I will offer a POV on
the 19000 series and NYC Bay Window cabooses. I have about a half dozen of the
brass 19000 series G&W Models. I used Scalecoat Freight Car Brown on all of
them and live with the variations. If you can find a color photo of a caboose
track, they are all different with weathering and age anyway - perfection is in
the eye of the beholder!

In the "Kindraka" file is a photo of the NYC Bay Window caboose painted with
one part Caboose Red and one part Boxcar Red, Floquil. I think it looks good.
(I attached a link, hopefully it works.) The caboose is a modified brass
model, changed to NYC Lot 778. NYC had only 3 or 4 of these, they were the
first of the Bay WindoW style and had an extra window over the conductor's
desk. That was eliminated in all subsequent bay window cabooses. Whoever
commented on the roof's not being painted black was spot on. BTW, the caboose
was painted by Jerry Poniatowski in Michigan. He used to lurk here.

Later when the NYC painted the cabooses Jade Green, some had the area over the
bay window painted white. This, I believe, indicted a caboose assigned to pool
service.
