Do you mean that is what is under Bob's LWS SW-1 or that you have reason to
believe the ones I have are NY?
Working with a set of Railmaster (presumably the same as North Yard?) Blunt
sideframes, I discovered that the ones
that came with my "Beveridge" drive, as with the G&W(?) sprung brass ones on my
earlier Miller are about two scale
inches longer than the Railmaster ones. Since the RM ones have the same
wheelbase as an SHS AAR truck, I suspect
the sideframes produced for the Beveridge drive are slightly oversize.
Happily, the Beveridge drive permits a slight
adjustment in dimension without losing its function.
And since I am working in something of a fog here, perhaps the more
knowledgeable list members can give me a definitive
answer about the history here: I keep referring to a "Beveridge" drive,
usually with a question mark to indicate my uncertainty
about terminology; from what others have informed me, Jon Beveridge developed
this drive using Lindsay gearboxes on machined
brass tube with a Sagami motor and a fabricated sheet brass tower with delrin
gears and chain. Independently, I gather G&W
(primarily a dealer?) had lost-wax AAR sideframes created, originally as
replacements for the incorrect ones on the AF Baldwin
switcher; apparently yet a third party--Cascade (also a dealer?) mated the two
and sold them as a complete drive. What I currently
have seems to be a Beveridge drive but with yet another set of sideframes.
Who can sort this out for me?
