All,
Here are a few things about my latest YouTube clip. Last Christmas I did not have my loop set up in the basement so the scale trains were under the tree. Since it was my first Christmas in my house, I thought I would amp it up a bit with a loop of all American Flyer around the outside of the SHS track. It looked good on paper. I got them to run when I was 10 - a slam dunk now. But for some reason even with cleaning the A F track I was not overly successful. Putting the AF up under the tree this year was a last minute thing. I was not going to do it. But using the SHS track made all the difference. It runs fine now. See the improvements that happen in the 50+ years since A C reigned supreme! My layout downstairs is more of a test track for now. It is a double track mainline but has no turnouts which is some cases has its advantages! A derailed car will generally stay running! I have new and bigger layout thoughts running through my head. Hopefully something will be under way this time next year. In spite of opinions to the contrary I still maintain that the Mighty PRR had the Scale Test car as the last car in the train. I understand we have real railroaders here that have moved Scale test cars in their time. But the fact that sticks in my mind was the PRR's way was it was to be the last car in train. Attached to that thought is a story about the cars heavy weight and short wheelbase oscillated when placed in mid train and did some serious damage to the track.
