Since Bill wrote about his train under a tree, I could not resist sending this video, a favorite, as the artist singing is a big favorite, about a train going in a circle and what happens when you mix in a cat. Bill, when placed just ahead of the "cabin car" (official PRR designation for caboose), it would be considered the "last car" in the train. Railroads didn't consider the caboose a "car" as it was non-revenue. That plus the fact being ahead of the caboose, crews could keep an eye on it in case it did its "oscillating" movements. Of course with any RR on any given day the "normal" was sometimes "abnormal" just to get the work done, so almost anything was possible.
