I too, remember the feature of Barney in the Herald.  When we journeyed 
to the Sacramento Gold Rush Convention in the mid 80's his layout was on 
the Sunday 'going home' tour.  Unfortunately he was the last on our 
schedule and by the time we arrived, Barney and his operators had gotten 
bored and left.  So I never got a chance to meet him, but did get a 
couple minutes in his layout building.
